The Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration have broken with tradition and hired a lay employee to lead the century-old Altar Bread production line for the first time in its history.

Tim Stiff was hired as production manager in May. A native of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, he earned a degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

He spent several years with Energizer in Maryville, Missouri, where he worked his way up to the position of human resources manager. After Energizer closed the plant, he worked for Altec Industries in St. Joseph, Missouri, as a mobile service supervisor before moving on to HillShire Farms.

“I’m impressed with how well the team works together and how resources are used very economically, how much they use what they have to make things work instead of just buying something new,” Tim said after a few weeks on the job. “I enjoy working for the Benedictine Sisters. They have been very helpful and open to new ideas. Each Sister seems to have one or several areas of expertise, and they use those skills to help make the community move forward.”
